Four From Team VA in Fargo Round of 32
13 others in medal hunt in Junior boys freestyle
Monday morning saw the boys take the mat for the first time at the 16U and Junior National Championships. The first session belonged to the Juniors, and specifically, in freestyle.
Fargo is always a difficult monster to control and it certainly reared its head today as Team Virginia ran into some of the best in the nation.
Once the smoke cleared from session one, four Virginia wrestlers remained in the championship hunt and 13 are holding on in the consolations.
Those four (Carter Shin/113, Karl Ludwig/157, Blake Jacobson/165, and Basheer Hadi/285) will compete tomorrow morning in the championship Round of 32 and competition will go up until the quarterfinals. Of these four, Ludwig and Jacobson both posted two wins - each coming via tech fall.
Of the wrestlers still alive in the consolations, Justin Jones (120), Max Mooney (132), and Lincoln Kelley (138) all earned three wins on the day.
From the wrestlers eliminated on day one, Logan Katz (120) and Ben Aguilar (144), recorded multiple wins. Katz had two and Aguilar had three.
For the remainder of Monday, boys freestylers in the 16U division will take the mat. We’ll have updates on their progress later this evening.
