McHenry Transfers to California Baptist
The two-time Cadet World Champ will finish his career on the West Coast
One of Virginia's best age-group wrestlers ever is on the move! Kurt McHenry announced today that he’ll finish his collegiate career on the West Coast wrestling for California Baptist.
Though he’s been in college since the 2019-20 season, McHenry has only seen action in 32 collegiate matches due to injury and being a part of some loaded teams.
McHenry comes to California Baptist after spending the last two years at Penn State. He was a member of a national championship team in both years at State College. In 2024-25, McHenry went 7-4 for the Nittany Lions.
McHenry started his career at the University of Michigan and was tabbed the #37 overall recruit in the Class of 2019.
Though he wrestled in high school at Maryland’s St. Paul School, McHenry is a native of Leesburg. While in high school, McHenry captured three titles at the Beast of the East and made the finals four times. He was also a two-time finalist and one-time champion at the Walsh Ironman. McHenry’s biggest splash came on the international scene where he captured a pair of Cadet world championships in freestyle - competing at 42 and 46 kgs.
McHenry will likely be penciled in as the Lancers starter at 125 lbs. They will be in their third year of postseason eligibility at the DI level and compete out of the Big 12. In 2023-24, CBU sent two wrestlers to the national tournament. Last season, they had one.
In addition to McHenry's transfer, CBU also announced that 2024 NCAA qualifier and four-time California state champion Jesse Vasquez would also join the Lancers in 2025-26.
