State Tournament Performance for 3A Schools (2015-25)
A division that has been ruled by dynasties
We’re starting something a little bit different today. Instead of “Class of” rankings and such, we’re going to look at recent state tournament team performance. Looking at that information, we’ll be able to see which programs have been the most consistent during the timeframe allotted. You can also decipher trends, who is rising and who may be trending down.
We started with schools that are currently 6A , 5A , and 4A - now it’s time for 3A.
3A is very interesting over this time period because it is a division that has been dominated by dynasties. First Christiansburg, then New Kent and Staunton River. Now, perhaps Skyline?
The study goes back to 2015, so there have been plenty of classification changes during that time period. A school like Cox, that was 6A but is now 5A, will be mentioned with 5A schools. Someone like Mountain View, that was 5A but is now 6A, will be featured today.
Please note, I’ve only included top-ten finishes during this time period (2015-25).
