We’re going to change directions today and circle back to recent state tournament team performance. Looking at that information, we’ll be able to see which programs have been the most consistent during the timeframe allotted. You can also decipher trends, who is rising and who may be trending down.

We started with schools that are currently 6A , 5A , 4A and 3A. Now, it’s time to focus on the 2A schools.

Over the last eight years, only two schools have won state titles in this division - Poquoson and Strasburg. They’ve dominated since Grundy went down to 1A in 2017-18.

3A is very interesting over this time period because it is a division that has been dominated by dynasties. First Christiansburg, then New Kent and Staunton River. Now, perhaps Skyline?

The study goes back to 2015, so there have been plenty of classification changes during that time period. A school like Cox, that was 6A but is now 5A, will be mentioned with 5A schools. Someone like Riverheads, that was was a 1A school will be featured today because they are now 2A.

Please note, I’ve only included top-ten finishes during this time period (2015-25).
